Conference of European Ministers Responsible for Higher Education, Leuven and Louvain-la-Neuve (April 28-29th , 2009)


On April 2009 the Ministerial conference was held in Leuven/Louvain-la-Neuve. Ministers took stock of developments since the previous conference in London (2007) and above all considered priorities and goals for the European Higher Education Area beyond 2010.

London Communiqué (May 18th , 2007)


The Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education in the European Region was developed by the Council of Europe and UNESCO and adopted by national representatives in Lisbon on 11 April 1997. This Council of Europe/ UNESCO Convention – usually referred to as the Lisbon Recognition Convention – has since been ratified by most European countries.

Bergen Conference of European Ministers (May 19-20th , 2005)


Bergen Conference stressed on the establishment on the European Higher Education Area based on the principles of quality and transparency, cherishing our rich heritage and cultural diversity in contributing to a knowledge-based society.

Berlin Conference of Ministers (September 19th , 2003)


In Berlin, 2003, Ministers reaffirm the importance of the social dimension of the Bologna Process and they recognized the fundamental role in the development of the European Higher Education Area played by Higher Education Institutions and student organisations.

Prague Communiqué (May 18-19th , 2001)


European Ministers in charge of higher education met in Prague, in 2001, in order to review the progress achieved and to set directions and priorities for the coming years of the process. They reaffirmed their commitment to the objective of establishing the European Higher Education Area by 2010.

Bologna Declaration (June 19th , 1999)


The Bologna Process derives its name from the so-called Bologna Declaration, which was signed on 19 June 1999 by ministers in charge of higher education from 29 European countries. It is an intergovernmental European reform process aimed at establishing the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) by 2010.
